In the series, A Month of Breakfast - August 2012, I systematically documented my breakfast everyday for a month. With the resulting documentation I combine acrylic painting and collage elements to create a jumbo-sized 'calender page' of breakfast. Each day's collage element is a varying system of information dealing either with food, place or the presence of time. I have used found materials taken from American life, spanning from the 1930s to today. The range of ephemera alludes to the idea that routines, like breakfast, continue for generations.
The act of painting, in this systematic way, is as much about routine as breakfast itself. By painting essentially the same thing everyday for months the act becomes habit. Sitting down to paint breakfast is as routine as sitting down to eat breakfast.
